Hurricanes Swimming is getting ready for our SECOND SEASON! After an amazing inaugural season, we can't wait to start up again! Below is all the information. Registration is open until July 15. We will take the first 40 athletes.

SEASON INFORMATION:
Staff - 

• Head Coach - Michelle Carpenter (Head Coach of the YMCA's Masters Swim Program  / SAIL Head Coach)
• Program Manager - Allene Davis

Who Can Participate - The Hurricanes Swim Team is open to athletes entering 7th-12th grade in the 24/25 school year. The team is open to any athlete who is homeschooled or whose school does not offer a Swimming Program.

Practice Information -

• Location - Knollwood Pool (127 Gail Drive, Mauldin, SC)
• Practice Schedule - Practice is available every day, Monday through Friday. Athletes are required to attend at least 3 of the practices offered weekly. Times are 7:00-8:30pm.
• Practice begins on 8/5 and continues through 9/30
• Occasional Saturday practices may be offered.
• No practices if there is a meet scheduled on that day.
• You will get out of the season what you put into it!

Requirement - Ability to swim 50m freestyle and 50m backstroke

Meets - 

• There will be approximately 7 meets for the season.
• Meets are male/female open events, 7th-12th grade, with no age divisions. 
• Weekday meets run 5:30-9:00pm (arrive an hour early for warmups)
• Weekend meets run 9:00am-12:30pm (arrive an hour early for warmups)

Events at Meets - 200 yd. Medley Relay / 200 yd. Freestyle / 200 yd. Individual Medley / 50 yd. Freestyle / 100 yd. Butterfly / 100 yd. Freestyle / 500 yd. Freestyle / 200 yd. Freestyle Relay / 100 yd. Backstroke / 100 yd Breaststroke / 400 yd. Freestyle Relay

Volunteering - Parents will be expected to help with timing at meets. Those who are certified or are willing to be certified will volunteer as "stroke and turn" officials. (This is required by Greenville County Schools  in order to participate in meets.)

Uniform -

• Girls - one-piece swimsuit - red or black OR red and black (only) print
• Guys -swim jammer shorts (compression style short) - red or black OR red and black (only) print. Trunks are not permitted.
• Caps with Canes logo will be provided.
• Goggles are strongly suggested.

Cost - $300 for Season Registration.  (Registration fee covers all meet registrations.)

Paperwork - Each athlete will need to turn in 2 pieces of paperwork before they are able to begin practice:

• Birth Certificate (athletes who have previously participated in a Hurricanes sport already have a bc on file.)
• Sports Physical - doctor's signature page only(not more than 1 year old)

A photo of these documents can be texted to Shelley Madson (864-275-3492) or emailed to canes@greenvillehurricanes.com. All paperwork must be in before an athlete can begin practicing with the team.

Physicals - For those who need a physical, Greenville Hurricane Athletics is offering physicals this summer at a fabulous price of $25! We have a new summer date. See info below:

• Date: Thursday, July 11, 2024
• Times: 5-7pm
• Location: 430 Cox Rd, Greer (Office of Dr. Patricia Banke)
• Cost: $25 (for comparison, Minute Clinic, MD360 and Doctor's Care all charge $40-$60 for a sports physical)
• How to Schedule: You can schedule by contacting canes@greenvillehurricanes.com for an appointment

GREENVILLE HURRICANES SWIMMING

SWIM TEAM 2024 (6th Grade)

Hurricanes Swimming is opening very limited spots to 6th graders in the 2024 Swimming program. Because 6th graders are not allowed to compete in the SCHSL meets, we cannot promise that there will be meets for our 6th graders. The focus of the swim season for 6th graders will be practice and skill development. The program will seek to provide several meets that are non-SCHSL, but we cannot guarantee that this will happen. 6th grade registrations will be capped at SIX INDIVIDUALS.

Registration Cost for 6th Grade Season - $300  (Costs for the season are mainly pool rental and coaching costs. Since this amount is the same for 6th grade registrants as well as 7th-12th, the cost will remain the same.)
