GIRLS VOLLEYBALL TRYOUTS 2024
PLEASE NOTE: Any athlete interested in participating on a Hurricanes team MUST be present at both tryouts to allow the coaches a better chance of evaluating the player. You MUST be officially signed up for tryouts in order to participate! There is no charge for tryouts.
Tryout Location:
The ROC Gym @ Fairview Baptist Church (938 Lakeview Circle #900, Greer, SC)
Tryout Dates:
Monday, 4/15 & Tuesday 4/16
- 3:30-5:30 pm - Rising 6th-8th graders
- 6:00-8:00 pm - Rising 9th-12th graders
Please note that while we are requiring tryouts by grade level, we are not restricting teams to only certain grade levels. Please note the following age breakdown that will determine teams.
Who Can Try Out:
Any home schooled student (or a traditionally schooled student whose school does not offer girls volleyball), 6th grade to 12th grade. It is the age eligibility policy of Greenville Hurricanes that athletes for the 2024/2025 school year do not turn 11 after 12/31/24 and do not turn 19 before 7/1/24.
What to Wear/Bring:
Players should wear comfortable athletic shorts and shoes. Make sure to wear kneepads and bring a water bottle. Please note: Wearing spandex shorts alone is not permissible within Hurricane Athletics. You may wear spandex under your shorts if you're more comfortable, but they cannot be worn alone.
*Once tryouts end, if your player is chosen for a team, they will receive an offer letter which they must accept by the given deadline to secure their spot on the team.
Please make note of ALL of these dates and make your plans to attend. Having a successful team is very hard if the team members aren't committed. The volleyball season is short, so please make sure your girls can join us for camp and all practices and games after that, barring an emergency. Volleyball is not an individual sport at all-- it takes a team that's devoted to one another to win; if all team members aren't there, it makes practice and play very difficult.
Other Important Dates:

- 7/23, 7/24, 7/25 -MS Team Camp
- 7/7, 7/8, 7/9 - JV/Varsity - Wofford Overnight Team Camp
- 7/29 - Practice starts- you can expect M, T, Th, F being a practice or game night.
- Games scheduled Mid-August through Mid-October(a full season practice/game schedule will be available in our TeamSnap App)
- Awards banquet is usually the week after our last tournament in October. Date tbd
Tournaments: Each year we work to include tournaments for our teams.
- Pre-season Tournament - Aug 16-17 (JV Only in Spartanburg) Aug 17 (V only in Columbia)
- Blazer Blast - Oct 5 (MS, JV and V) Spartanburg
- Carolina Classic - Oct 12 (MS, JV and V) We host this tournament in Easley and will need many volunteers for this day.
*As a team, it is important that if you try out and make the team, you are able to attend all tournaments.
Practice Schedule:
Practice will start Monday, July 29th and will be M,T,Th,F until games begin. We will have practice on these days unless a game is scheduled. We have a schedule of practice dates and time in the Mobile App for easy tracking.
MS: 3:30-5:30
JV:5:30-7:30
V: 7:30-9:30

Game Schedule:
As we schedule the games they will be available on your Mobile app after registering online.
Registration Fees:
Parents: Our goal is to develop a program that provides a fun, competitive environment while giving the players the opportunity for development. Volleyball registration fee covers the following costs: Administrative expenses to support the team (insurance, personnel, etc) / Operations - facilities expenses, officials, equipment. Participation in the 2024/25 season includes all tournament entry fees. Free access to the home games for immediate family: mom, dad, and siblings.
JV/VG - $625 ($400 Season Registration + $225 camp)
MS - $425 ($350 Season Registration + $75 camp)
*There is a $50 jersey charge for new players or returning players wishing to purchase a new jersey.
Payment Plan Options:
- $125 paid at the time of registration
- Remaining amount is split up evenly into 2 payments made in June and July
- If you want to use this payment plan option, choose "pay by card" on the checkout page. You will then turn on installments with the red toggle button.
Volunteer Requirements:
The girls volleyball program is run with volunteers. We will need volunteers to help with admissions, concessions, scoreboard operations (set-up), scorebook, stat tracking, 2nd adult at a few practices, and occasional event support. We will have a minimum amount of spots to fill per athlete.
Fundraising:
This is a critical aspect of our program. We will have individual and group initiatives that each player can use to raise funds to reduce the cost of the fundraising requirement ($100). We plan to have some fun and engaging ways to raise funds.
NOTE: $100 of the amount a player brings in in fundraising will cover the required $100 fundraising amount. Monies brought in above the $100 requirement will go to the Girls Volleyball Program.

Sports Physical:
A physical is NOT required to participate in tryouts, however a physical will be necessary following registration for those girls making the team.
Birth Certificate:
If you have never participated with Greenville Hurricane Athletics, please bring a copy of your birth certificate to tryouts.
