HURRICANE CHEERLEADING TRYOUTS & SEASON INFO 2025/26

Greenville Hurricane Cheerleading is very excited to announce that we will be offering a JV and Varsity Team for the 25/26 school year!! We have highlighted new information for the JV Team

The following information is designed for cheerleaders and parents, providing necessary details to register for the upcoming season. Please carefully read through each section and when you are prepared to sign up for tryouts, scroll to the bottom and click on the REGISTRATION BUTTON.

Please note that you must be signed up in order to tryout, and signups are now open. Both returning and new cheerleaders must be signed up.

TEAMS OFFERED
This year, Hurricane Cheerleading will be offering a JV & Varsity Team for the 2025/2026 season.

There will only be ONE tryout for cheerleading for all of the 2025/2026 school year! There will not be any makeup tryouts. April 26th is the only date for tryouts. This tryout is for both Football Season and Basketball Season. There will not be a separate tryout for Basketball Season. Any Football Season cheerleader who does not want to cheer for Basketball Season is not required to. There will be no new cheerleaders brought on for basketball season.

NOTE:  We realize that this date of 4/26 conflicts with Cheerleading Worlds in Florida, for those cheerleaders who are in competition cheer. If this is the case for you, please contact Cheer Program Manager Jodi Williams (cheeradmin@greenvillehurricanes.com).

When: Saturday, April 26, 9am-4pm
Where: Grace Church Taylors (2701 Wade Hampton Blvd, Greenville, SC)
Who: 6th-12th grades in the 25/26 school year
What to Wear:  Please wear a black top and black shorts. Shoes must have flat soles.
Tryout Signups: You MUST be signed up for tryouts (includes returning cheerleaders). There is no charge for tryout signups. Please scroll to the bottom and use the red button at the end of the email.

JV Tryout Requirements:

• Must be able to perform dances and cheers with rhythm and coordination
• Attempt a toe touch to counts
• Willing to try different stunt positions
• Energetic and able to lead a crown
• Must have a good attitude
• Be coachable
• No prior experience necessary
• Willing to learn 45+ cheers from videos over the summer if accepted on the team.

A JV cheerleader can be up to 11th grade.

Varsity Requirements: In order to be eligible to try out for Varsity, the athlete must have the following skills:

• Hold bridge
• Kick up to handstand
• Clean cartwheel
• Dance with coordination
• Sharp motions
• Ability to lead the crowd
• High energy
• Willing to participate in summer conditioning/practices
• Toe touch to counts
• Good attitude
• Be coachable
• Prior dance/cheer experience not required but is recommended
• Willing to learn 45+ cheers from videos over the summer if accepted on the team

A varsity cheerleader can be as young as 7th grade, with advanced skills.

SEASON INFORMATION

Our Varsity squad will put in hard work towards learning dances, cheers, jumps and stunting skills and techniques.

SUMMER PRACTICES
These dates are to be determined and will be communicated following tryouts.

SEASON PRACTICES
Season practices will officially begin on Monday, August 4th.
Practice Schedule:

• JV - Monday and Wednesdays at Grace Taylors, 3:30-5:30pm
• Varsity - Mondays and Wednesdays at El Bethel Baptist Church, 3:30-5:30pm

Practices will continue through November 5.

CHEER CAMP

• Cheer camp will be held for both JV and Varsity on June 20-21 and is mandatory for all cheerleaders.
• The camp will be held in Greenville, SC, and the specific location is to be determined.
• Our cheerleaders will receive custom coaching with highly experienced staff and instruction in stunting, tumbling, jumps and dance, along with gameday choreography
• Fun, team-bonding activities will be included!

REGISTRATION COSTS
The Cheerleading Registration Cost Structure has a small inventory of required items to be purchased, which are explained below.

1. The JV & Varsity Cheerleading Registration Fee for the Football Season  is $150. Cheerleaders desiring to continue on during the Basketball Season will pay an additional $100 in October.
2. The Uniform Fee for all new cheerleaders is $400 which includes Gameday Uniform, Poms, Bag, Bow and Jacket. Returning cheerleaders may purchase uniform pieces separately during registration.
3. The cost of camp is $325 and includes practice wear, which the athletes will continue to wear for practice during the season.

FUNDRAISER
Hurricane Cheer will offer two fundraisers in an effort to subsidize costs, assisting families, while supporting the program. This information will be available following Tryouts.

PAYMENT PLAN
In consideration of difficult economic times, Hurricane Cheerleading provides a single Payment Plan option beyond paid-in-full, detailed below.

1. A downpayment of $100 upon Registration.
2. The remaining balance (Registration, Uniform and Camp Fees) will be drafted once a month on the 15th of each month for the following four months.

ITEMS PURCHASED INDIVIDUALLY BY CHEERLEADERS

Shoes – Solid white cheerleading shoes with flat bottom. (Can be purchased at Academy Sports.)

Black Compression Shorts – Must be worn under shorts at practice and the uniform at all times. You can find a variety of options at many different stores. You can also look up “spandex shorts” on Google or Amazon.

HURRICANE SPORTS PHYSICALS
Sport Physicals are required for each middle school and high school athlete participating in Hurricane Athletics. The Sport Physical must not be more than one year old at any time during the season. Each year we offer Sport Physicals through our Sport Medicine partner, Dr. Patricia Banke, at an inexpensive price of $25 as a benefit to the Hurricane Family! We invite all cheerleaders to take advantage of this at our first scheduled opportunity on Thursday, April 17, 5:00-7:00pm located at 430 Cox Rd, Greer, SC 29651. PAPERWORK REQUIREMENTS & PAPERWORK SUBMISSION
More information will be available for those athletes participating in Tryouts who make the 2025 Cheerleading Team.

SEASON VOLUNTEER REQUIREMENTS
Supporting our Football/Cheer Programs and your student-athletes requires families to assist throughout the season. With your support, we can once again make the 2025 Football Season a HUGE SUCCESS for our athletes and the spectators who cheer our teams each contest. Every family registered in the 2025 season will be expected to sign up for volunteer-coordinated opportunity, which might include help with concessions, admissions, chain gang, ball boy, setup, cleanup, etc. There are ordinarily 5 opportunities to serve required for each Cheerleading family over the course of the entire season.
