SEASON INFORMATION
WHAT: We are a Marksmanship skill development program. We prepare during the Fall semester with training, practice and local competitions that lead to State, Regional and National Championship matches in the Spring and Summer sessions- the competitive portion of the season.
WHO: The team includes Elementary, Middle, and High School student athletes who practice and compete on the Hurricanes Marksmanship Team. Marksmanship is one of the 12 sports programs within the Greenville Hurricanes Athletics Organization, a 501(c)(3) providing opportunities for those in homeschool settings, as well as those in public, private, charter, or alternative educational programs that do not offer a particular sport at their school.
WHY: We use marksmanship to develop life skills and offer opportunities for students to build strong character qualities. As a team, we participate in volunteer activities to support the first responders and veterans in our community. Individuals who have worked hard to reach achievements are recognized and awarded.
HOW: Through Marksmanship training, practices, events, team-building activities, group coaching, individual evaluation, range time, at-home drills, skill qualification programs, and competitions, success is achieved and lives are improved when students learn responsibility, patience, loyalty, helpfulness and how to overcome difficulties in a safe, supportive environment. Match registration/scoring is on Practiscore.com to track skill progress. Please set up the athlete's FREE account there.
WHEN: The season runs from September through December for everyone on the team. For those that desire to compete at a higher level, we continue January through July. We ask that student athletes participate in at least one practice a week. Several weekly practices are offered— at least one weekday after school, one evening, one morning, and one weekend. Limited Range memberships are included in registration, as we encourage athletes to work on their own after learning how to improve their skills at practices.
WHERE: The 2 main training locations are SharpShooters Indoor Range in Greenville, and Speedway Gun Range in Travelers Rest. Other training/competition ranges include the Saw Mill in Laurens, Clinton House in Clinton and Belton Gun Club in Belton. It is not mandatory to travel, but if desired, more competitive matches are held in Orlando, FL, Charleston, SC, Savannah, GA, Talladega, AL, Columbus, OH and more.
WITH: Athletes work with Coaches, Range Safety Officers, Volunteers, Teammates, Friends, Family members and Sponsors, offering them opportunities to train and compete within various leagues and organizations, including our main competitive focus, the largest youth shooting organization in the world: SASP- Scholastic Action Shooting Program, mysasp.com
Other organizations we work within are:
